Many Stories Headline Chargers @ Jets

The 4-1 Chargers travel to New York to take on the 3-3 Jets. This game is huge for both teams.

The game got more headline attention when Jets head coach Rex Ryan stated that he would have one multiple Super Bowl rings already if he was the Chargers head coach. Norv Turner then responded that he wants to see the rings that Ryan guaranteed in his first two season in New York. I personally think that Ryan was only trying to compliment the Chargers in saying the talent they have is that good but it just came out all wrong. Will this add fire to the Chargers game attack? Will the Jets play with more fire, which in the past they seem they have whenever ever there coach talks smack?

This game is also the first time both RB Ladainian Tomlinson and CB Antonio Cromartie face off against their former team. Tomlinson has scored a touchdown against everyone in the NFL except the Chargers. Both players have stated that this is just “another game” but will Tomlinson and Cromartie have a big game?

And the final headline is of course that the last time these two teams played, the Jets came out the winner. The Chargers had a 13-3 regular season record and earned the number two seed in the playoffs. In the Divisional game, the Jets upset the Chargers 17-14 in which the Jets outscored the Chargers 17-7 in the second half.

But do all these headline affect what is played on field? That remains to be seen.

On offense, the Chargers get TE Antonio Gates back which could be a huge lift because the Jets have trouble defending TEs. Also, look for the combination of Mike Tolbert and Ryan Mathews to have a big game in passing attack because the Jets LBs are too slow to guard RBs. It will be interesting to see if the Chargers attack CBs Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie.

On defense, the Chargers cannot let Mark Sanchez and the Jets offense get in a rhythm. Their offensive line has been playing better of late and the Jets get their run game going, things can start to open upm for the passing attack.

Key Match-up to Watch: Vincent Jackson/Malcolm Floyd vs. Darrelle Revis/Antonio Cromartie: This WRs vs. CBs matchup will be a good one to watch. Revis can gaurd anyone and Cromartie has the height and speed to stop both Jackson and Floyd. Jackson and Floyd need to find a way to get open and make plays for the Chargers against a Jets pass defense who has been shaky at times this year.

Player to Watch: Joe McKnight: The Chargers should look at for this versatile player. He does everything for the Jets: Kickoff Returner, Punt Blocker, WR, RB, and has even seen time at CB this year. If the Chargers can control his ability to make plays, the Chargers can just add to their chance of winning.

Outcome: This game is a bigger game for the Jets and I think they come out on top with a 21-17 win.
