Week 1 Recap and Week 2 Preview

Week 1:
The Chargers’ offense looked like, well, the Chargers’ offense in Week 1 against the Vikings. They racked up over 400 yards of offense and Philip Rivers was his usual self. Rivers threw for 335 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs. He connected with 8 different receivers, all who had at least 2 catches.

The defense had trouble stopping the run game but that’s okay because Donovan McNabb could not get the passing game going. The Vikings offense is built for McNabb to succeed and the Chargers all but shut him down. The Chargers were able to use this game to get some preseason rust off as they did not look good in the first half. In the second half, it was all Chargers as they went on their way to a 24-17 victory.

Week 2:
Look for the 2nd half, from Week 1, Chargers versus the Patriots this week. This can be another high scoring game for the Patriots but the Chargers have the weapons to stick with Patriots. On offense, look for Vincent Jackson to have a good game. Jackson who plays like Brandon Marshall (7 rec 139 yards) will find himself in a lot of one on ones has the Patriots try to contain TE Antonio Gates.

On defense, the most important thing is to get pressure on Tom Brady. It doesn’t matter if they get sacks but if Brady has all day to pass it, then it’s going to be a long day for the Chargers. Another key to winning is stopping tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski. The Patriots are revolutionizing the way the tight end position is played but if you have containment on them, then look for this to be a tight game.

I see the Patriots winning in a high scoring game 30-27
